Howdy all! Today we start a fun new project called the ‘Important Papers’ Project. It’s a folder of all of our most important papers (that tend to end up in all sorts of random locations in the house) all gathered into one folder for easy access and referencing. I’m really excited about this project. I saw it on one of my new favorite blogs (Prepared, Not Scared) and knew it was something I wanted to do. So I figured I’d take you on the journey with me. 🙂 Just a warning, it looks like it will be quite a bit of work, so we’re going to take it slow. Each month we’ll cover just a few documents at a time. It may take some people a few minutes to gather the assigned documents and others a few days (depending on if you need to have certain documents mailed to you, or if you’ve already got them in your filing cabinet). But when we’re done, we will have a folder that is full of all our most important papers… papers you would need in an emergency, or in an everyday situation. But you’ll have them all in one place and stored away somewhere safe.
So today is our kickoff! We’re starting off by gathering a solid, sturdy binder. For the amount of papers that will end up going into this, you’ll likely want a 2″ or 3″ folder (and a ‘D ring’ style would be even better), but just start with whatever you have in your house and upgrade as needed. We’re also going to need some sheet protectors (lots) because these are our most important papers and we’re going to want to keep them protected. So grab some of those the next time you’re at the store.
In the meantime, here’s a cover page for the folder and a spine title that I made for mine. You’re welcome to use it, or come up with your own creative pages. (There’s a spine title for a 1.5″, 2″, or 3″ binder… depending on what you’re using.)
And next time we’ll start organizing this into a functional folder. 🙂 See ya then!
