Feature Friday: Family Emergency T-Shirts!

This is the coolest idea that I came across HERE at Safely Gathered In. I love that website. It’s full of good food storage information. The idea is matching family t-shirts that you keep in your 72-hour kits (each shirt has a different number on it) so that in an emergency, you don your loverly lime green (or other equally obnoxious and easily recognizable color) shirts, so that if someone were to get lost, you could either spot them more easily or ask others, “Have you seen a little girl in a lime green shirt with the number 4 on it?” (For one, that’s easier to describe than the way your child actually looks, and for two, others are more likely to notice and remember the obnoxiously loud colored shirt with a random number on it. :))

Anyway, you can read all about how to make it on the Safely Gathered In website. Be as cute and creative as you want! I added the bit (in the above picture) about having an additional tag on the shirt that has your name and contact number because I would love for my child to be returned to me if I were unable to find her! On that note, however, you should not put your child’s name on their shirts and I would also put this tag in small writing (perhaps attach it on the sleeve or something) so it’s not easy to identify a last name from afar (or you could even leave your last name off if you would prefer). The last thing you want is this information being used against you to help a child predator kidnap your child!

Anyway, fun idea, cool idea, and you can get the whole family involved in the fun. Enjoy!

You rock Debbie! This is an awesome website and I’m glad I finally got to sit down and read through it. I need to start from the beginning and go through your steps. We have been STRONGLY advised to get with it in our stake and really feel like the time is growing short. You are only as good as your neighbors food storage is, right?!? I want to help instead of being a burden. I’m grateful for your COD! I wish that ran in the family-hee! Love ya!

What a great idea, especially if you have little ones.

We don’t often go now, about every 3 or 4 years, but when we did go to the amusement park or big fair or something, sometimes we would all try to wear the same shirts in case someone got lost or so we could easily keep track of everyone. These shirts would come in handy in that situation too. A two-fer!
